Kaitakunomura and Nopporo
Kaitakunomura Historical Village Snow Walk

Summary
The new WALKnTALK Club held their 2nd group activity with six members heading out to "Kaitakunomura" and the Centennial Tower in Nopporo for a winter snow walk. It started out with a horse drawn sleigh ride through the historical village with a tour guide explaining about the pioneer structures we passed. After that we were on our own to explore areas that were not visible during the sleigh ride. During that walk, one of our members Yasuhiko explained a lot about the history of Hokkaido.
We then proceeded to the cafeteria, which was almost deserted and ordered from a very nice menu of hot meals. Lots of good conversation took place during that long lunch break. This is an excellent place to eat and relax before exploring more of this huge site.
The afternoon walk was a circular course through the woods to the Centennial Tower built in 1969 to commemorate the founding of Hokkaido 100 years before. The weather was almost ideal with no wind and a temperature of around zero degrees. As the weather gets better into early spring, we will be planning our next adventure and hope that more of our 16 members will join us.
