HMSC and SISC (Sapporo International Student Center) will co-sponsor a fair to support the needs of the students as they prepare for life in a winter climate. We will collect winter clothing items for both adults and children, plus kitchenware and office supplies. On October 5th, 2024 we will give these items free of charge to the students who have come from warmer climates to help support their adjustment to the Hokkaido winter as they live and study here. At the moment, they have a little over 100 people living there and new students will arrive at the end of this coming September.
We ask for your help! As you do your spring cleaning or decluttering, we ask you to box up winter clothing items for both adults and children that you otherwise might feel you need to throw away as you no longer need them and donate them to this event.
We hope to receive donations of the following items in all categories that are clean, new, or nearly new (in good condition).
Winter wear (adult sizes and children’s wear from age 6 months to 14 years old
winter outerwear and footwear (jackets, hats, boots, scarves, gloves)
Any electrical items should not be more than 15 years old.
Office/school supplies (these should be new)
Notebooks, files, pencils, pens, erasers, staplers, staples, etc.
If you have items to donate you can take them directly to the center. SISC is willing to receive any donated items once a month on the following dates between the hours of 9 -5.
May 31st (Friday)
June 28th (Friday)
July 31st (Wed.)
Aug. 30th (Friday)
Sept. 30th (Monday)
As new students arrive each year, we hope this will become an annual co-sponsored event. If you need help, contact Peggy Shibuya at: sapporopeg@gmail.com
